The Chairman’s Charity Big Band concert was a sell-out success at Clair Hall on Sunday 14 October 2018. Hosted by Councillor Bruce Forbes, Chairman of Mid Sussex District Council, the concert raised a fabulous £3,305 in support of local charity Sullivan’s Heroes.
The 17 piece ConChord Big Band orchestra and singers stunningly recreated the sound of iconic 1940’s Swing orchestras, performing as the wartime US Army Air Force Band and delighting the audience with hits such as Glenn Miller’s ‘In the Mood’, Moonlight Serenade, Chattanooga Choo Choo, Tuxedo Junction, Adios and Tony Dorsey’s Opus One.
A raffle was held during the intermission and generously supported with local businesses providing a range of prizes. Thanks go to Waitrose Haywards Heath, Hall and Woodhouse, Kingscote Vineyard, Marks and Spencer, The Entertainer, The Crown Turners Hill, Drusillas Park, Nymans Gardens, Fishers Farm Park, British Airways i360 and The Orchards Shopping Centre, as well as individuals who donated. Their generosity, along with the support of the audience ensured that the raffle alone raised a fabulous £760 with all funds going to Sullivan’s Heroes, a local charity based in Turners Hill that funds home adaptations for disabled children.
