NHS staff will be able to call on volunteer 4×4 drivers in the event of severe weather this winter thanks to a new partnership with Sussex 4×4 Response.
Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which provides specialist mental health and learning disability services to all ages in Sussex as well as services for children and young people in Hampshire, has signed a new agreement with charity Sussex 4×4 Response, which provides support to the emergency services, local authorities and communities in times of need.
The team of volunteer drivers provide 4x4s in times of severe weather, transporting essential personnel or supplies to areas that would be hard or impossible to reach in normal vehicles.
Chris McGonigall, Resilience Manager at Sussex Partnership, said: “The volunteers at Sussex 4×4 Response are dedicated to make a difference in their local community and I am delighted we are starting this great partnership. Particularly in rural areas, it can be difficult for staff to get to work in event of severe weather like snow or floods, and this is where Sussex 4×4 Response comes into its own.”
