Donations of £2000 each have been made to Lowland Search Dogs and Sussex Search and Rescue (SUSSAR) from the Police Property Act Fund.
The money was presented to the respective chairmen for both groups, Steve Ball and Danny Wood, by Hastings and Rother district police commander, Chief Inspector Steve Curry.
Mr Ball said the money would fund the provision of uniforms and four seasons weather gear for members, plus light collars enabling search dogs to work safely at night. It would also pay for a purpose-made coat protecting the dogs from muscular injury as they cooled following searches.
Mr Wood hoped to use the cash to fund special training courses and help with his group’s communications network.
Sally Gunnell, the group’s patron, added: “It’s great to see SUSSAR’s incredible work being recognised by Sussex Police, as both organisations work closely together to try to help those that need them most.”
